To All the Organs I Have Loved

Well, I finally had my first real surgery. That’s right, just two weeks ago I went into the local “Urgent Care” facility feeling like someone was trying to drill a hole in my gut. At first I got a little snark from the nurses, “You sure it isn’t just gas?” they asked me with a sly grin.

“Uh no, I know what gas pain feels like,” I replied… feeling grumpy.

They ran my blood and my white blood cells were elevated.

Suddenly it wasn’t just gas pain anymore! I was in for a CT Scan before I had a chance to change my mind and within a half hour (they said it’d take 90 minutes) I was told I had appendicitis and the little guy was going to have to come on out.

So then it was into an ambulance, which was also a first for me, and off to the real hospital where a surgeon was going to walk me through what happened next.

Long story short… that night I was appendix-free in my hospital room after a very successful surgery that left three small scars on my abdomen (thank you Laparoscopic technology)!

Of course, all of this went down just three days before the release of Battle for Azeroth so I was looking forward to getting a chance to lay back, play some games, and recover from the event.

That proved more difficult than I had expected.

Technicolor Mom jumped in to help me set up a “Gaming Center” in our Living room. Our television became a massive monitor and two 16 foot USB cables were laid out across the floor so that I could plug in my keyboard and mouse on the couch.

It was pretty hilarious to see me splayed out like that.

I got to play a fair amount that week and I’ll be writing another post about our experiences in BFA so far, but man the last few weeks have been such a whirlwind experience that I’m honestly pretty excited to get back to normal.

Due to my being out of office for more than a few days, I had to officially turn to my work’s leave of absence option. That has been more of a headache than a peace of mind, but at least it was there for me to use rather than just being left hanging, amirite?!?!

  1. Hehehe, clever title, did you get 10 achievement points for that…? 😉

Sorry to hear about your surgery though. It does sound very nice, the way it was set up so you could game a little. I wish you a speedy recovery until you are fully healed; I remember when I had my appendix out, I raided 4 days later (hardcore raiding guild at the time). I don’t know how I pulled that off, lol.
