A Night in Ninjago City: Season 4 Update

Hey everybody!

I know I’ve been a bit more sparse with my posting so far in 2020, but I promise you that your patience is about to be rewarded. Last week we finished up our photos for Season 4 of Township. The last night of pictures were all taken in the massive LEGO sets Ninjago City and Ninjago City Docks.

Working with Ninjago City sets is a real treat. I use a lot of the Creator Expert modular buildings for my photos, and I have found them to be a real hassle to work with since they require me to pull off walls here or there to get good angles and lighting. In reality, I end up doing most of my work just trying to get those sets apart and back together again without losing any of the pieces along the way.

When it comes to Ninjago, the modular builds are taken to a new extreme. You have lots of small segments, which can all be flipped, stacked, relocated, or whatever else you might fancy.

The entire time I was putting together shots, I was thinking about where I could make this change or that change, all without having to rip apart half the set just to get the right view!

The longer I have worked on Township, the more I have come to value the non-Expert series sets, with the open backs and accessible areas. I wish those sets carried half of the detail inside as you see in sets like Ninjago city, but hey, we can mix and mash some things together to create a pretty detailed place.

With the excitement of the photos out of the way, Township Season 4 is officially in post-production. As of this writing, seven episodes have been finished, and the rest of the season is awaiting final edits as the images are aligned with the story! I’m hoping in one more week we can have a finished product… so bold am I in this mindset that I’m officially setting a date for the premiere!
