Here come the words!

“Can you say banana?”

“Bah nah nah,” she says to me.

“Say please!”

“Peesh. Peeeeesh.”

Our daughter hit a threshold recently. We started to retire the pacifier and we found that aside from the occasional what have you done moment, she’s been quite okay with the transition. Most importantly, with that change has come the words.

We had already enjoyed the “ma ma” and “da da” for some time. If we were lucky she gave us something else to giggle about.

Now she’s asking for breakfast and naming foods.

The best thing? Yesterday she said “Goo gool.”

Not like the cute little cue of a baby, but the enunciation of Google, which is a word you hear spoken in our household a lot… even more now that we’ve started to tackle home automation (more on that in another post).

I can’t really identify when our little one transitioned from a baby to a small human girl, but the transition definitely happened.

Since I last posted about eating out with the family, we’ve been on two family trips to Florida and our little one got to take on the role of a flower girl for her Aunt’s wedding!

She dances like a maniac whenever she hears tunes playing, she brings us the remote if she wants us to turn on the TV, which is all the time, even if we’re not watching anything, and she pats the floor next to her when she sits down, expectantly waiting for you to join her so that she can play.

We enjoyed watching her pretend to read books in the past, and while she can’t read yet, she now sits in her chair and babbles on as she flips the pages.

Her video calls to relatives have evolved from simple stares to dances, giggles, greetings, and farewells. Goodnight kisses and hugs are the normal part of a daily life for our little one too.

It feels very fulfilling to be a part of this continuing path in a way I could never explain, even if I tried.

Giving Thanks

Meanwhile, I think it’s important to take the time to also acknowledge the blessings we’ve been given.

I am so thankful that my wife and I are able to tackle this goal together. We are both so fortunate to have solid jobs, good health, and the time to dedicate to being the parents we have always wanted to be. We know that many parents never had, or will never have, the opportunity to slow down and absorb each day with their children. It already goes by so fast, even with us being able to spend so much time together.

Less than two years ago I didn’t have a child. Now, I can’t remember the days without the little one in my life!

So we thank God for all that we have here; for all the wonderful things that have happened in our lives. I know that I could just as easily not be where I am today, and I will never forget that, no matter what.
