Several years ago, before The Flamecaller of Stonehaven was published, many of the ideas were born from what I simply called “WoW Adventures.” These stories were fanfiction background pieces for my in-game character, Sionis. When I started publishing these stories on this site, one of my first supporters and followers was Alunaria, who hosted Alunaria’s Avenue, a site dedicated to their WoW character and all the things they enjoyed about the game.
Alunaria was one of the first individuals, outside of family and close friends, who made me feel like my stories were reaching an external audience, and my brain logged this person as someone I would think about often over the years.
A global pandemic, controversy at Blizzard Entertainment, and a myriad of other life-altering events came and went over the last six years. I don’t know whether Alunaria is still out there. I checked their website, and sadly, it was a 404 error, so I don’t think Alunaria’s Avenue still exists as it once did. I know there was a time when WoW had lost its appeal for Alunaria, and I assume they eventually stopped playing and moved on to other interests.
Now that player housing is finally in WoW, I’ve started setting up my home and toying around with all the new and interesting things they’ve introduced. I think WoW is in a much better place than it was a few expansions ago, and I can’t help but think the night elf Alunaria would have been pleased to see the new world tree, and now, our chance to have our own plots of land to decorate and design as we see fit.
At my player’s home, if you come to visit, you will find an empty stool and a backpack that I have placed in honor of Alunaria. As a creative writer, Alunaria inspired me with kind words and helped me feel like I was creating something people enjoyed reading.
I will never forget it.
Here’s to you, Alunaria. Elune be with you, wherever you are.
