Today is a pretty big day.
Today, Name of the Wand: Bad Blood has gone live. All eight episodes. Together, they conclude the story of Sionis Sepher, his magical wand, and his brave and heroic allies.
The final chapter in a story that lasted a decade.
That’s right. A decade.
In August of 2010, my world had recently changed… dramatically. I had a new job, my first technical writing job! I was out of college, living away from home for the first time, and living on my own.
I did what most single young folks were doing in 2010. I logged into World of Warcraft and revived a character I had not played for a few years.
A mage named Sionis.
As I played the game, I decided I wanted to practice my creative writing by creating adventures that my character might go on in the game. I called these stories entries in my “WoW Journal.”
That project would continue, off and on, from that day until today.
I am proud to say that I have finally compiled, published, and put the last words together to close out the Name of the Wand, my full series on the life and adventures of Sionis Sepher in World of Warcraft.
It’s been a long road. I won’t lie, this story is not Shakespeare by any means, and I doubt you’ll find yourself swept off your feet by my powerful prose.
Uh, no. It’s an absurd online story about my digital character in a massive company’s IP universe. A universe that is no doubt filled with millions of other real humans writing their own adventures.
Still, this story is mine, and I genuinely worked on it for ten years. I don’t know if I should be proud of that, or embarrassed. Maybe a little of both?
I wanted to thank TechnicolorMom, as always, for being so supportive of my hobby. I doubt that Sionis’ tale would have reached a conclusion without her continual approval and encouragement. So, if this story is just… the worst… blame her!
To everyone reading, thank you for visiting this small piece of the internet. It means a great deal to me, and I hope that my stories bring you even an ounce of enjoyment, especially in these wild times.
To Sionis Sepher, fire mage of Stormwind, we say “Goodbye, goodnight, and may you have a good tomorrow.”
